WHO AM I?

AM I THE IMAGE I WANT TO SHOW IN A SHOOT, OR AM I WHAT THE OTHERS SEE IN THAT SHOOT?

The sociological debate about the project “onoS oI” starts from the social analisys of the “selfie” concept.

The social change always arises from multidimensional factors, on one side we have a technoilogical development, from another a social evolution.

This new concept comes out a sort of social need TO SENSE THEMSELF AS PRESENT IN THE WORLD, “I AM, I’M HERE, YOU CAN NOTICE THAT FROM MY PHOTO, I AM NOT ALONE, I’M WITH OTHER PEOPLE”…

But a careful analisys can detect how the “selfie” is ironically a sort of deep solitude expression, a cry, a warning, a look of self-sufficiency. It is in fact at the same time a portrait of loneliness (I take the selfie) and the evidence of an existencial self-sufficiency (I take the selfie by myself, I don’t no longer need to relate myself to other to ask them to take a picture of me).

So this instantaneous portraits appear to show the necessity to remember to the Others, to the the world, that “we are” (I’m here, in this exact place).

It seems in fact clear the link with new social pathologies resulting from the change, also in tecnhological development, such as those caused by the lack of internet reception, increasing web addiction followed by depression and anxiety.

Without an easy access to the web we lose the gateway through which we proved to the world our existence.

Francesco Mazza offers us a sort of temporal regression on artistic basis, asking us to sit on a stool in his photo shoot to show the innermost of our inner space.

In this way, the “Io sono” project will constitute, in sociological terms, an answer to the social need call to “feel and confirm that I AM”, highlighting the need to turn to our real and pure essence -without choosing the most appropriate mask to that specific selfie- , to open us to the Other’s key role just to ask “Excuse me, could you take me a pic?”
